| Clara Joyce from Inis Mór, Aran Islands won two bronze medals in the Aquatics section of the Special Olympics in Shanghai, which took place from the 2nd to the 11th of October, 2007.
Clara Joyce won the bronze medals in the 25 metre freestyle and the 4 x 25 metre Freestyle Relay, while she gained 6th place in the 25 metre backstroke.
Clara returned to Inis Mór on Saturday, 13th of October to a fantastic reception. The Aran Direct 6.30pm ferry from Rossaveal was decorated with balloons and messages of congratulations, and she returned to a packed pier in Kilronan.
Once she got off the ferry, she was presented with flowers, carried down the pier, and then brought on a “lap of honour” from Kilronan to Killeaney with an escort from the Garda Síochána and the Fire Brigade. Her homecoming was also covered by Radió na Gaeltachta.
