| Inishmore was the place to be on Thursday, the 10th of August, as Today FM broadcast the Ray D’Arcy Show live from the island from 9am to 12pm.
The outdoor broadcast took place outside the
Ostán Oileain Árainn (Aran Islands Hotel) in Kilronan on Inishmore, and the Today FM team were brought back from the island on a specially chartered Aran Direct ferry.
The broadcast was part of the Fáilte Ireland “Ireland’s Islands” show special which saw the radio show broadcast from 4 islands around Ireland in just 4 days. The packed schedule involved broadcasting from Cape Clear Island on Tuesday, Valentia Island on Wednesday, Inishmore on Thursday and Inishbofin on Friday.
Ray D’Arcy interviewed a host of local people during the three hour show, including Dara Molloy, a Celtic Monk living on the island, and the star of the show, Mary Burke, who kept saying she normally listens to Gerry Ryan! Mickey Harte played some of his new songs live during the broadcast, and finished with an amazing rendition of “The Island” with two local fiddle players.
A huge number of people around Ireland emailed the show saying what wonderful experiences they have had on Inishmore and the Aran Islands.
One lucky listener from Waterford won a fantastic trip to Inishmore during the show which included a limo transfer from Galway City with Silver Service Autos, a luxury ferry crossing from Rossaveal to Inishmore with Aran Direct, and 2 nights B&B plus one evening meal in the
Ostán Oileain Árainn (Aran Islands Hotel).
